I am from the south of Germany, I lived in Nuremberg, Vienna, Salamanca, Hamburg and Berlin. Currently I live and work in Galicia, close to the Atlantic Ocean.
I photograph, draw and collect materials in antique bookshops and flea markets. I process the material into collages and paintings.
With my paintings, I make current issues tangible and question entrenched norms. My compositions are created using a multimedia collage technique to create multi-layered structures to reflect the complexity of our time. I combine wistful motifs from advertising, clippings from old science fiction magazines and typographic elements. In addition to my encounters during my travels, I am inspired by Dada collage and pop art artists.
I finished my studies of communication design at the University of Applied Sciences Nuremberg in 2007, with further international studies in Vienna and Salamanca. I have been exploring the expressive forms of collage for more than 20 years, worked for 3 years as an art director in major advertising agencies and founded the collage collective "COLLAGITOS". Since 2010 I work as a freelancer focusing on conceptual illustration for magazines and creative agencies and personal projects.
WORKING PROCESS
I work with illustrative elements, typography, script, snippets from advertising messages, science fiction and comic aesthetics, a mixture of different decades of pop and advertising culture.
Senselessness, sounds, letters strung together, existential questions, personal thoughts, psyche. Going crazy. Travelling, moving, cultures, wanderlust, the search for the different, new, unknown.
My experiences of the advertising world are expressed. I use the false images of the perfect, always happy people I had to create there to alienate this aesthetic, to "smear" it,
I meet it aggressively, tear faces, cut out eyes and mouths. The text / slogan / claim plays a big role. I love playing with it. I am a communication designer, which I apply in the design of my images. The text combines with a motif / colour / shape to make a (striking) statement. Tired of "always having to convey the one clear message that has to work in seconds", I cut up the words, to nonsense and combine the elements according to purely formal aspects, so that "random, unintentional, strange, ironic or even incomprehensible statements emerge. It is always about conveying something and making someone do something, word-image. I work with motifs of longing. We are constantly longing for something new, different, expensive, shiny, far away, etc.. Until we feel sick and everything comes pouring out of us again. There are many stories to tell. I often work with images from tourism and food advertising, with material from animal, landscape, travel books and magazines since the 50s. Techniques: Painting (acrylic, chalk) between figuration, illustration, collage in combination with gestural-abstract, transfer techniques, mixed media, assemblage.
